YOGA
|
The goal of all kinds’ yoga is to obtain oneness with the universe,
process of enlightenment, or union with Brahman (Hinduism’s highest god). There
different kinds of yoga, the less spiritual yoga which is used in most fitness
center and gymnasium is called hatha yoga.
Even at that some Hindu words and practices are still done from words like Namaste which is said with hands
together with slight bow, this gesture means I see/bow to a divine spark or the
god in you. There also chant which is supposed to put you in a trance and the
beginners postures are all to pay home age to the Hindu sun god.
In the mist of
all the controversy Christian fitness trainers have come up with Christian yoga
and praise moves, yoga with its roots in Hindu, how can it be safe for Christian
to participate and enjoy the benefits?
There
are Christians who believe it’s possible to be a Christian and still practice
yoga. They believe as a child of the Most High God it’s impossible to be possessed
by a dead Hindu god, they use different words instead of Namaste they say “you’re blessed” knowing that words are powerful,
instead of playing chanting songs they play worship songs and making confession
and affirmations instead of saying breath out the negativity and empty your
mind.
Christian understand that the mind is a powerful weapon and leaving an empty mind is not an option, the mind must be filled with the word of God. They believe doing yoga is basically stretching, flexibility, and breathing. Since yoga is also about mediation and the bible tells in Joshua 1:8 to mediate on the word so we can have good success. Yoga is a good state to mediate on the word.
